“Become totally empty…..

Quiet the restlessness of the mind

Only then will you witness everything

unfolding from emptiness

See all things flourish and dance

in endless variation

And once again merge back into perfect emptiness—

Their true repose

Their true nature

Emerging, flourishing, dissolving back again

This is the eternal process of return

To know this process brings enlightenment

To miss this process brings disaster

Be Still….

Stillness reveals the secrets of eternity

Eternity embraces the all-possible

The all-possible leads to a vision of oneness

A vision of oneness brings about universal love

Universal love supports the great truth of Nature

The great truth of Nature is Tao.”

Lao Tzu in the ever insightful Tao Te Ching as written in verse 16

Loving you all, as you seek your Tao today. Remember, to be filled, you must first become empty.

As I contemplate the harried frenzy that Black Friday is in our society; when anxious retailers seeking to get their business in the Black before year’s end; sell maximum amounts to eager shoppers looking for super deals. I know it’s all about money, whats wrong with that you may ask? Everybody’s got to make a buck, and we all love great deals, right? On the surface, all is well we say. But is it really? Was it okay for a  Wal-Mart worker in Long Island, N.Y., named Jason D Friedman who died after being trampled by customers who broke through the doors early Friday. Was it alright for the four other workers who were also trampled as they tried to rescue Jason,  including a woman who was eight months pregnant. Sadly this was not an isolated incident. No, all is not well, when we place more value on bargains then on the lives of our fellow human beings.

What has become of our better senses? Do we really value the acquisition of more stuff over human life? Although we may not have participated in any incident where we endangered or harmed others to fulfill our desires; we still need to stop and consider what is happening here. We are all connected. No one is an island unto them-self. What happens around us in society is a reflection of what we are creating within ourselves. When we place more value on obtaining the latest gadget at the lowest price, then we put on the life and well-being of another our priorities are sadly unbalanced.

I am not saying it is wrong to shop and seek the best bargains you can get on Black Friday or any other day. What I would like to suggest is a shift in our priorities. A return to love, courtesy and respect, both for ourselves and for others. For all true expressions of love, respect and courtesy must begin within us. You cannot give what you do not have.

Love will never harm another for any reason. “Love is always patient and kind. It is not jealous, proud or boastful. Love never acts in disrespectful or unbecoming ways. It does not just look out for itself or become easily angered. It does not keep a record of all wrongs suffered. Love bears all things patiently, it does not lose hope, even when things look their darkest. Love endures all that comes its way, as Love never fails.” (paraphrased from 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a)

As you consider what is most important to you, and how you choose to demonstrate your own values in this life I wish to close today with these poignant lines from the 3rd verse of Lao Tzu‘s ever amazing Tao Te Ching.

“Putting a value on status

will cause people to compete

Hoarding treasure

will turn them into thieves

Showing off their possessions

will disturb their daily lives.

Thus the sage rules

by stilling minds and opening hearts

by filling bellies and strengthening bones

He shows people how to be simple

and live without desires

To be content

and look for other ways

With people so pure

Who could trick them?

What clever ideas could lead them astray?

When action is pure and selfless

everything settles into its own perfect place.”

As you choose each day how to live your life, consider what you wish to be demonstrating. Will you be showing gentleness, loving-kindness, and respect? Will you show a higher sense of value as you shop for the latest gadget  to be obtained at a bargain price.  Only you can make the choice to live a purely loving and selfless life.

We must each understand that for any change to occur, it must begin within myself, for you and I are but reflections of each other.

When you stop to carefully consider all that is, all that is most dear to you in this life, what stands out as most important? Would it be money, or fame, or material possessions? No, I think if we were to stop and look at our lives from an outside perspective; or to be suddenly faced with a crisis, we would stop and consider what we hold most dear. In those moments when we are our most insightful, we will unequivocally and irrevocably see simply love. Love is the source and substance of all we hold most dear.

G’D, the Divine Oneness from which we all flow, is pure concentrated love energy. All that we are and all that is of genuine value in our lives is simply and purely love. Nothing else exists or matters, for it is all simply an illusion. As we leave this life we will see this with exquisite clarity. My question is, why wait until then? Why not stop now and look around you and see everything, and everyone with new eyes. Put on the lenses of love and see every child of G’D as He/She does, with pure love.

How can we be angry or hateful or bitter towards our brothers and sisters here in this life, when we take off the illusions that distort our view and see everyone with only love. Everyone on this earth is your brother and your sister. All can be seen as either giving love, receiving love or crying out for it. Each person in your life is an opportunity for you to love them and accept them as they are. To them you are also are an opportunity to love and accept another. The more we are able to love and accept each other, the more we are becoming like the One who loves us all beyond measure.

In love there is no condemnation, no judgment, only an overwhelming sense of awe and wonder at the completeness, the wholeness, the immeasurable magnitude of  G’Ds great unconditional love for each and every one of us. No one will ever be left out of this pure embrace. We may choose to live for a time as one who is unaware of this love, this radiantly magnificent love that welcomes each of us home. But it is from the very heart of this love that we flow into the river of this life we presently know. Every part of our being is suffused with love, when we open ourselves to this reality and leave the illusions of our fears behind, our lives will be forever transformed.

When we let go of the illusion of fear, and live in the reality of love, love is not only all we will see, it is all we will be, and it is our deepest and truest destiny.

My prayer for you this day, as we begin once again to consider what we are most deeply Thankful for, is that you will see the greatest gift of all is love. May you forever be enveloped in loves pure grace.

To Thine Own Self Be True

As the ever amazing don Miguel Ruiz says in his beautiful book The Voice of Knowledge; “If you can see that your life is your own creation, then why not create the most beautiful story for yourself?”

To do this don Miguel goes on to explain you must begin with yourself. To begin a wonderful, loving new relationship between you and yourself, you need to begin by changing your agreements with yourself.

don Miguel Ruiz says that “One agreement you can make is to treat yourself with respect.” When you introduce the agreement of self-respect, many of the judgments you hold against yourself along with the self rejection will end with this agreement.

On the journey to love and accept yourself as you are; it is important to take time to really look at yourself, inside and out. As you contemplate your life so far, be gentle. Forgive yourself completely for all past mistakes. See them as important steps along your life’s path. Remember, If it were not for our mistakes, we would not understand life as we presently do. We are very experiential creatures. We learn far more through our experiences, then we do from any other method.

Once you have introduced the agreement to respect yourself, and have fully and unconditionally forgiven yourself, you will be able to respect and forgive all others.  As Bishop Joseph says in this moving quote, “We cannot serve anyone with whom we have animosity.  This is why the Gospels stress forgivenessOur Lord even forgave those who crucified Him, crying out from the cross, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:34)  If we are to serve the world, we must first be able to forgive everyone and anyone.  The slightest amount of unforgiveness or anger towards anyone is enough to keep us from God, for in God there is only love.”

When you allow love, respect and forgiveness to be the cornerstones of your life, you will be able to fully and unconditionally accept yourself. Until you accept yourself as you are flaws and all; you cannot fully accept others as they are.  To cease from judging others we must begin by stopping the judgments we heap upon ourselves. To do this, we need to rewrite our story with love. For in love there is no condemnation. To judge another for any reason is like condemning a caterpillar for not yet being a butterfly. We must each develop within the cocoon of our present beliefs, before we can break free of our chrysalis and finally be the butterfly we were born to be.

Take time to really evaluate what you believe about yourself. What is serving you and facilitating your spiritual growth; what is not? What helps you to love yourself  completely? What does not?

We cannot give what we do not have. Take time to nurture and romance yourself. Stop putting yourself last all the time. If you do not take care of your needs, you will not be able to help others. Buy yourself some flowers, take a long luxurious bubble bath, go for a walk out in nature. Breathe deeply, savor the pure joy all around you. Listen to your favorite songs. Meditate. Do whatever brings you peace and joy on a regular basis. Do not wait for someone else to complete you, and bring  joy to your life. You are already complete and Joy is your birthright. You have simply forgotten how beautiful and utterly amazing you are. Look at yourself as if you have never seen yourself before. Remember, you are beautiful, you are amazing and yes you are incredibly lovable and sensuous too!

Allow yourself to Be who you are. Love. Love is the essence of everything that you really are. Anything else is an illusion and a lie. Unconditional Love is your truth, and it is the truth that sets you free.

As you take this inner journey, be patient and gentle with yourself. Acknowledge how you feel. Embrace this incredible person that you already are! Allow yourself your feelings, for therein lies your integrity. Each one lingers for but a brief time, its purpose being to help unfold you, as you heal your wounds and grow your wings.

Allowing your own healing to take place brings all of humanity that much closer to the healing of our entire race. We are all one. Our separateness is but an illusion. You could say we are like little rainbows that dance around the room, as light hits a multifaceted-ed prism. We are the myriad aspects of one infinitely great and unfathomably amazing Being.  All that is, all that lives or exists in any form is a part of this magnificent Being; for whom we hold so many names.

As you daily grow in your ability to love, respect, forgive and accept yourself, you will also grow in your ability to give the same kindness to others. Life is a journey, a most sacred and special event. We have all been invited to this incredible event. Each of you are the star of your own story. I invite you now to transform your story with love, beginning with yourself. Namaste

Often when we are faced with suffering and tragedies in our lives we are forced by these painful events to stop and ask ourselves seriously, what is the meaning of life? Why are we here? Why do we so often, experience suffering?

For me nothing brings this home like seeing a child suffering from a life threatening illness, or the death of a young person, with their whole life ahead of them. This was brought very clearly to my mind, when a little over a year ago, one of my neighbors lost their infant son to SIDS.

Tragedy’s like this appear so utterly meaningless and hopelessly devastating; but are they really meaningless acts of fate?

To answer this question we first have to stop and consider an even bigger question. What is the meaning of life? Why are we here?

As I have deeply contemplated these questions; and sought spiritual guidance from the spirit realm on the reason for our existence, it came to me that the meaning of life could be summed up in one word. Opportunity.

When they lost their son, my neighbors used their tragedy as an opportunity to raise awareness of SIDS in the community. They held a special walk at the local park in honor of their son’s brief life. Booths were set up with information on preventative measures parents can take to prevent SIDS.

Life can be viewed as an infinite opportunity, both to express love, and to allow others to love you. In this sense, no life, regardless of duration here is devoid of meaning. Life is a most sacred and valuable experience. It is through this time spent here together that we have the opportunities to express who we are, by living in love. We give others the opportunity to love us from the time we begin forming in our mother’s womb. Once we are born, we begin to learn how to love others, by the way they love us.

We are also given hidden opportunities when someone treats us in an unloving way. We have the opportunity to forgive them. As we face the difficulties of dealing with tragedies and difficult people in our lives, we have the opportunity to grow beyond our present boundaries. For it is often during the most painful and difficult times in our lives, that we grow the most spiritually. Knowing this may not diminish the pain very much at the time, but it does let you know there is a larger and grander purpose to all that we experience here. Life is an opportunity to grow through all we experience.

My prayer for each of you, is that you will fully love even as you are deeply loved, by the One who formed all that is. May you come to realize that the Great Spirit is always at your side; to hold you when you face the darkest hours of your life. May you not fall into utter despair, for after the darkness comes the morning’s light. Let the morning bring you word of Gods unfailing love for you.

Remember, One day, we will return to our spirit home, where all is Love and Light. From that vantage point the present suffering of our time spent here, will take on a different light. We will clearly see how each event was a loving opportunity. On that day all those loved ones we think to be lost from us now; will be with us again, when we wake from the dream of this life. You see my friends, Love  never ever dies. Love is what you are, and this life is your opportunity to experience love exponentially.

Today, as you experience your own journey through this life you are creating; remember each day, with each person you encounter, you are both receiving and presenting an opportunity to love and be loved.
